Foster carers look after children who cannot live with their own families. They care for children aged 0-18 in their own homes and must have a spare room available.
In the UK, a child comes into the care system every 20 minutes. So why do children come into foster care?
Children come into foster care for many different reasons, including parental illness or medical emergency, short term problems in the family which require space for resolution, domestic violence, neglect and abuse and separation from family due to war and persecution.
Foster carers look after children in their own homes and work with other professionals to help children move forward from difficult early life experiences. Fostering can be genuinely transformative.
